Frequently asked questions
Renamely FAQ
Quick answers about pricing, trial limits, updates, privacy, and macOS compatibility.
Is Renamely a subscription?
No. Renamely is a one-time purchase. No recurring fees, no subscription. Buy once and use it forever.
What are the trial limitations?
The free trial lets you use every feature with no time limit. The only restriction is that each batch operation processes up to 5 files. You can run as many batches as you want. Purchasing removes the 5-file limit.
How much does Renamely cost?
Renamely is $9.99 on the Mac App Store (includes Family Sharing) or $14.99 for a direct license from novetool.com (valid for up to 3 Macs). Both are one-time purchases.
Which macOS versions are supported?
Renamely requires macOS 12 Monterey or later. It is a Universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
Will I get free updates?
Yes. Minor bug-fix and feature updates are included free with your purchase. Any future major version upgrades will be offered at a discounted rate for existing customers.
Are my files uploaded to any server?
No. All file processing runs locally on your Mac. Renamely never uploads, collects, or reads the contents of your files. It works entirely offline.
What is your refund policy?
Direct purchases via Paddle are backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If Renamely does not work for you, contact us within 30 days for a full refund. App Store purchases are governed by Apple's refund policy.
Where is my license key stored?
For the direct (DMG) version, your license key is delivered via email after purchase through Paddle, and activated inside the Renamely app. No online account is required. For the App Store version, the purchase is tied to your Apple ID — no license key needed.
What is the difference between the App Store and Direct versions?
The features are identical. The App Store version uses Apple's StoreKit for purchase and supports Family Sharing. The Direct version uses Paddle for licensing and allows activation on up to 3 Macs. Choose whichever purchasing method you prefer.
Does Renamely support special characters in filenames?
Yes. Renamely handles both NFC and NFD Unicode encodings, so accented characters like é, ü, ñ, and à are processed correctly without corruption or data loss.
Can Renamely rename photos using the EXIF date taken?
Yes. Choose the "Format with Date" strategy and pick "Date Taken (EXIF)" to turn camera files like IMG_2034.JPG into archive names like 2025-06-15_001.jpg. JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, and camera RAW files are supported. Files without photo metadata (screenshots, scans, text files) automatically fall back to the file creation date.
